The new LG G4.

LG had announced that it will launch such a flagship smartphone that will change the way people look at smartphone photography, which gave a boost to peoples hope. This promise was fulfilled by the launch of the LG G4, which the company said was a promising camera phone and has highlighted its camera as well as it outside design as its major Usp.

The phone comes with the rear power button and volume rockers that LG was the first to introduce; an extremely convenient and a well thought of design element that was first seen in the LG G2. The phone has a 5.5 inch QHD display that gives comfortable viewing experience even under bright sunlight.  The first thing that the company has highlighted about the phone is its slightly curved body. LG has even introduced optional leather back for the G4 model. The cover indeed gives the phone a premium appearance; however the color and the level of finishing could have made the phone look a lot better.

The phone is packed by 3 GB of Ram and has an internal storage of 32 GB. There weren’t any app crash or lags and the G4 worked like a breeze. It comes with a battery which is better when compared to the other high end segment phones like the Samsung S6 or Apple iPhone 6. It is based on Oxygen Os and comes with few pre-installed apps that do eat up around 5 Gb of the storage space.

Now lets move on the “second” thing that the company highlighted about the phone was it Camera. The camera is that main USP of the phone according to LG.  The rear camera is a 16MP shooter which takes great images. The main attraction is that the camera lets you save the images in RAW format. It’s highly beneficial for those who want to edit or process these images in professional software after capturing them. The LG G4 16 megapixel camera is great when it comes to shooting objects closely; however, zoomed images are a little disappointing. The front snapper offered here is a decent 8 megapixel. It comes with a manual mode for shooting that allows you more flexibility to get creative.

The phone can serve as a great alternative for budding photographers who want to capture great images and also have the option of having a handy device. LG needs to focus more on getting the color contrast right as it lacks on this front when compared to the Samsung S6. Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of the device :

Pros:
  • Mostly great cameras
  • Long battery life
  • Has a microSD card slot
  • Bright, vibrant screen

Cons:
  • Trails its rivals in gaming performance.
  • LG didn't include its Quick Charge technology.

Final verdict:
In the end there are just a few minor niggles holding the G4 back from taking the top spot from the mighty Galaxy S6, but it should certainly be on your shortlist, especially if you appreciate microSD cards, bigger screens and gadgets wrapped in luxurious leather. At Rs. 51,000 it has a huge take at the pockets. You can look in for the Samsung S6 and the HTC M9+ before paying around half a lakh for the phone.
